Itinerary Assist AI: Introducing Automated Product Rules

Request a Demo

Our AI Copilot for Destination Management Companies just got smarter — again.
We’ve rolled out a major new feature inside Itinerary Assist AI: Automated Product Rules, built to help DMCs using Tourplan generate custom itineraries at scale.

This AI update is designed to further reduce the manual effort involved in building accurate, high-converting itineraries directly into Tourplan.  It has been developed to meet increasing volumes of FIT quote requests that our clients wish to process using our proprietary AI Copilot.

If you’re an Inbound Tour Operator or DMC using Tourplan, and you haven’t yet unlocked AI Itineraries. This article is a must read. To recap, Itinerary Assist AI helps build draft itineraries using your real inventory, preferences, and historical edits — saving time without sacrificing customisation. DMC’s dotted around the world have seen quoting time reduced by 40–80%.

Automated Product Rules: Why This Matters

Every Destination Management Company operates slightly differently — and every itinerary has its own fingerprint.

Some DMCs lean into 4-star boutique properties, while others prioritise availability-driven matching across branded chains. Some prioritise a specific transfer fleet. Others work with local guides on fixed schedules. The point is: no two DMCs are exactly the same.

This is where Automated Product Rules steps in. It allows Itinerary Assist AI to automatically and continuously learn which products your team prefers in which scenarios — and apply those preferences behind the scenes to new itineraries as they’re built.

AI is Evolving Fast - But Dependability Matters for DMCs

From a development perspective, what sets TourConnect AI apart from generic tools like ChatGPT is our dedication to ‘getting it right’ the first time.  Take the release of Chat GPT-5 - there have been very mixed reviews so far, with the early consensus seeming to be that it’s faster but the quality has slipped significantly.  It will improve in the next days and weeks, but for now it doesn’t seem as dependable for direct queries as GPT-4 and for many users there’s no ability to roll-back the model if they wanted to. Dependability matters.

We are constantly speaking with DMCs, we’ve heard loud and clear that they need reliability and consistent quality with every itinerary.  A stable AI model with regular but gradual improvements is the way to achieve this, even if speed improvements come on a little slower.  We believe this is the best path to build a robust AI product that large DMCs can rely on.

The proof is in the pudding as they say.  As you can see from our accuracy metrics, the draft itineraries created by our AI are getting better, and rarely get worse with an update.

Smarter with Every Edit: How our AI Copilot Learns Your Preferences

Say your main hotel in London no longer offers your preferred room product. Previously, your AI draft itineraries included that room product - but now you need that to change. Just update the hotel room once in the next relevant AI itinerary draft, and your AI Copilot will remember to use it for similar trips going forward. No new rule setup, no team retraining — just smart, adaptive quoting that learns as you work.

Automated Rule Management happens behind the scenes, driven by each itinerary correction in our user interface.

How It Works — AI Itinerary Rules linked with Tourplan

This feature is part of Itinerary Assist AI, built specifically for Inbound Tour Operators and DMCs using Tourplan. Here's how Automated Product Rules works under the hood:

1. Learn

Our system observes your team’s itinerary edits and selections across different request types. This could be a manual change from a static hotel rate to an available dynamic rate, or changing a rental car class for example.

2. Train

Using techniques including machine learning, Itinerary Assist AI identifies patterns in how your team maps travel agent requests to specific hotel, transport, and activity product lines from live inventory stored in your Tourplan account.

3. Apply

Itinerary Assist AI applies those unique preferences in future draft Itineraries and change requests — improving accuracy, reducing manual edits, and speeding up delivery.

4. Continuous Optimisation

New patterns are compared with existing rules. Old or unused product rules are automatically retired over time to keep things clean and relevant.

What It Means for DMCs using Tourplan

Tourplan users that choose Itinerary Assist AI now have the benefit of faster, more accurate AI Itineraries with this significant new feature.

✅ Faster turnaround

Less time spent matching products means you’re able to stay in the flow state, focusing on the core task of creating customised FIT itineraries at scale.

✅ Less manual setup

No more building and maintaining rules, the AI Copilot simply learns “on the job” alongside your DMC staff.  Existing Itinerary Assist AI users will no longer see the Product Rules pop-up when editing and switching services. The process is now seamless.

✅ Smarter itineraries from day one

AI drafts reflect the way your team already works, based on your real product preferences and availability when refining the AI draft into a final Itinerary.  This is a supervised learning approach, where each correction made by your team influences how AI builds all future itineraries.

✅ Scales with you

Whether you're quoting 100 or 1,000 itineraries a month, Automated Product Rules grows alongside your team.  The process does not require any adjustments as you increase the throughput of quotes.

Part of a Bigger Initiative — And It's Working

Automated Product Rules is the latest feature released as part of our Product Matching Improvement initiative.

Since March, we've achieved a 17% increase in product matching accuracy. This means you're now more likely to see the right products, faster and more consistently.

Automated Product Rules brings another leap forward, reinforcing our focus on delivering the most effective, purpose-built AI tools for DMCs.

Here’s what that looks like when applied to your FIT quote workflow.

Onboarding: A quicker path to ROI

For DMCs new to Itinerary Assist AI, getting started is now faster than ever. Our onboarding team works with you to connect Tourplan and run early tests with real quote briefs — and with this new automation layer, the system starts learning immediately.

You'll typically be live in 4 weeks, potentially less now with this update. And from there, the AI just keeps getting better.  We have new and exciting features coming soon that broaden the types of quotes and itineraries you can automate with Itinerary Assist AI.

Why AI Itineraries for Tourplan Matters in 2025

The travel industry is moving faster than some Inbound Tour Operators have noticed. Travellers expectations are approaching hyper customisation and this is driving change throughout the travel industry. Labour and regulatory pressures are increasing. AI options are growing but most are not suitable for serious DMCs using Tourplan.

DMCs that adopt the right AI tools now will be better placed to respond, win, and grow — without growing overhead.  Teams that are upskilled on AI tools are much better placed to increase productivity whilst retaining the human touch.

Automated Product Rules is one more proof point that TourConnect AI is making smarter, faster quoting the new normal for DMCs.
