📈 AI Accuracy Across Itinerary Types Is Climbing. Here’s What We’ve Learned.

As AI itinerary generation starts to become more commonly adopted by Destination Management Companies (DMCs), many industry leaders are asking: how accurate is it, really? At TourConnect AI, we’ve analysed thousands of AI-generated itineraries from our DMC clients to power our developments, but it means we’re in a good position to answer the accuracy question with real data. This article breaks down the accuracy trends by service type — accommodation, transfers, activities and more — showing how our AI Copilot is improving month by month. If you’re evaluating DMC quoting software, looking at automated reservation systems, or considering AI itineraries, this is a must-read.

What the Accuracy Data Shows (Dec 2024 – Jul 2025)

Across thousands of FIT itineraries generated using our AI Copilot for DMCs, Itinerary Assist AI, we’ve tracked monthly accuracy of the AI’s ability to select the most appropriate product or service line at the first attempt. Here's the high-level trend:

  • Overall accuracy improved from an already strong 83.4% to an impressive 92.4%

  • Transfers: 86.2% → 91.0%

  • Accommodation: 72.0% → 90.6%

  • Activities: 88.6% → 95.2%

  • Rail, and package inclusions also improved, and although Car rentals accuracy remained stable we’re confident that our August release will have an appreciable impact.

This isn’t AI that hallucinates. It’s AI that learns.

What’s Driving the Gains?

We’ve made a number of deliberate platform investments — and worked hand-in-hand with clients — to reach this point. Here’s what’s behind the accuracy trend:

1. In-App Feedback Loops

DMC staff flag quote edits directly in the TourConnect AI inbox add-in. That data and speed has been invaluable in developing the relationship with our DMC clients when creating itineraries, and has helped us prioritise features which will have the highest impact and lowest risk to existing product matching and extraction success rates. Listening carefully has been key. We’re very grateful to our clients for their ongoing support and excitement.

2. Prompt Strategies

This feature allows DMCs to tell the AI how to interpret vague quote requests — from simple “two-night city stays” to long, multi-stop FITs. Prompt Strategies automatically adjusts based on the travel agent, so partners with more complex requirements can have one strategy, and other travel agents with mode basic quoting requirements can have another.

3. Dynamic Rates

The AI can now identify multiple rate types for the same product and if there’s uncertainty about the best match, the AI will simply display the selection and the best alternative options for that request — static, dynamic, or preferred. The Rate Choice feature is saving time and enabling improved margins in the background.

4. Automated Product Rules (Released August 2025)

Instead of manually defining rules, the AI now learns your preferences based on how you edit itineraries. If you swap in a specific hotel chain or tour product, it remembers — and applies that next time. Less repetition, more consistency.

5. Demand & Variety

During this time we’ve seen new clients joining and existing Inbound Tour Operator clients rolling out usage, generating higher quote volumes. With that demand comes diverse training data — including from Europe, Asia-Pacific and Southern Africa — accelerating our ability to support new FIT use cases quickly and confidently. All enabled by the stability of our partners including Tourplan.

Built for Customised FIT at Scale

We’re passionate about giving DMCs the ability to generate customised itineraries at scale — without losing control.

Heres what it looks like when the AI Copilot is applied to your DMC workflow. How would this look if mapped again your recent numbers?

Everything we’ve built is focused on improving productivity at each step of the FIT pre-travel process. Nothing unnecessary.

  • Reading the travel agents quote request without errors and understanding the brief clearly

  • Drafting a strong first itinerary with consideration of margins, wow factor and in-house rules

  • Enabling a faster reply to that agent with a high quality quote that meshes the best of AI and human skillsets.

  • Quick refinements and changes to itineraries pre-travel, using the same inbox based workflow

  • Less context-switching across systems and screens, because the work is done from the inbox

We’re passionate about the DMC workflow and committed to being the absolute global leader in AI Itineraries based on real inventories and pricing.
